A battery passport is a digital product passport that becomes mandatory from February 18, 2027 for electric vehicle, industrial, and light means of transport (LMT) batteries. It contains information on materials and composition, CO₂ carbon footprint, supply chain due diligence, circularity, performance, and durability. The legal basis is the EU Battery Regulation 2023/1542, specifically Article 77. DIN DKE SPEC 99100:2025-02 is a German pre-standard that defines the data structure for the digital battery passport. It covers seven data categories: identification, materials and composition, carbon footprint, supply chain due diligence, circularity, performance and durability, and labeling and declaration of conformity. The specification is widely expected to align with the upcoming EU delegated acts, making it an important reference for battery passport preparation. For batteries (electric vehicle, industrial >2 kWh, and LMT batteries), the digital battery passport becomes mandatory from February 18, 2027 under the EU Battery Regulation 2023/1542. The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) will extend the digital product passport to additional product categories in stages.
