Pricing FAQ
Can I try DPP Hero for free?
Yes. Every account starts with 1 free test pass including all core features, DIN SPEC 99100 data structure, PDF & JSON export, QR code and hosted pass page. No credit card required.
How does the monthly quota work?
Every plan includes a fixed number of new passports per month (Starter {starter}, Business {business}, Scale {scale}). Only publishing is counted. The counter restarts at zero at the beginning of each billing period. Passports published in earlier months do not count again.
Do drafts count against my quota?
No. Drafts do not use any quota, so you can prepare them at your own pace. Counting only starts when you publish a pass. A fair-use cap only limits how many drafts you keep at once: 100 on the Free plan, 10,000 on every paid plan.
What happens when I exceed my quota (overage)?
Publishing further passports is paused. It continues once the next billing period starts or you change plan. There is no automatic top-up and no additional billing. Your invoice stays exactly the plan price you chose. Passports already published stay online, and you can keep creating drafts.
Do I pay again each month for older passes?
No. Once published, every pass stays online for as long as your subscription is active, no matter which month it was created. The monthly quota applies only to newly published passes, your existing library stays accessible at no extra cost.
How long does a battery passport have to stay available?
The EU Battery Regulation names no fixed number of years. Article 77(8) only says: “The battery passport shall be deleted once the battery has been recycled.” Availability therefore hangs on the life of the battery, not on a deadline. If a battery is repurposed or remanufactured, paragraph 7 even requires a new passport. It is linked to the old one. For you that means: count on the whole service life of your products, not on a one-off project.
Is the software the only cost block?
No, and you should plan for that. Besides the software there is obtaining the GS1 identifiers GTIN and GLN. Plus the physical marking of your batteries with the QR code that Article 13(6) requires; an NFC carrier alongside it is not prohibited and costs extra. Plus collecting the data along your supply chain. And depending on the battery type, work with a notified body. The software cost is the easiest block to plan. The others depend on volume, manufacturing process and supplier structure. That sum is called total cost of ownership, or TCO. Calculate it over several years, not over one month.
Can I switch plans later?
Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time. On upgrade the new plan is active immediately and your monthly quota increases. On downgrade access remains until the end of the current billing period, after which the smaller quota applies to new passes. Passes you have already published stay online.
Are prices shown with or without VAT?
All prices are shown excluding VAT. For customers with a valid EU VAT ID, reverse charge applies (0% VAT). For German customers without a VAT ID, 19% VAT is added.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes. You can cancel any time from your dashboard, with no long-term contract. Your plan stays active until the end of the current billing period. After that, 1 pass stays online on the Free tier, and any additional passes are set to private following a 30-day export window. Important: your passes are only hidden, never deleted, and go back online instantly when you resubscribe.
What happens to my data if I want to switch providers?
You take it with you, without lock-in. For migration there are four exports per passport. Those are JSON in our structure, JSON in GEFEG format, a PDF and the QR code. The QR codes can also be downloaded in bulk. A switch therefore does not fail on the data. The second point is the address. From the Business plan the passport page runs on your own domain. The printed QR codes then point there and not at us. That is what separates a provider you can leave from one holding your printed codes hostage.
How do these prices compare to building it in house?
There are no credible flat figures for either route. Too much depends on model count, data situation and team. The logic can be described cleanly though. With a self-build the development effort comes first. It covers the data model, access logic, QR infrastructure, validation and versioning. After that the permanent block starts: operations, domains, monitoring and tracking the legal position. With software you pay a running fee that spreads exactly this work across many users. Calculate both routes over the same period of several years. And with a self-build count the cost of waiting. Every developer hour in the passport is missing from your own product.
What does the Enterprise plan include?
